Beatles on January 28, 1969 podcast

In a way, this is the worst day of 1969 for the Beatles.  Satan appears.  Listen to the podcast and you’ll find out who I’m talking about.

Rock Dad is about to take a step up in the blogging world.  My Beatles stuff has found a new home.  I’ll tell you where it is when it’s live.

First episode of Let It Be podcast

In case you missed it, the first episode of my podcast that follows the Beatles recording/filming sessions from January 1969, you can find it here.

Beatles on January 27, 1969 Podcast

If you have been following this podcast series, you know that all month The Beatles have been having trouble agreeing on where to hold a live performance.  A decision has been reached, at least for today.  Listen to the podcast and you will find out the current plan.  The podcast will end with a really fun version of “I’ve Got A Feeling.”

Beatles on January 26, 1969 podcast

Today we spend a lot of time with George. I share some of my thoughts about his role within the Beatles and many of the interesting audio moments today involve him. If you are a George fan, you definitely want to check out this podcast.

Has this series gotten you hooked on January 1969?  If  so, you really need the book Drugs, Divorce, and a Slipping Image by Doug Sulpy and RaySchweighardt.  This amazing book gets into much more detail than I can on this podcast.  It is now only $14.95, and you definitely need it if you are serious about this stuff.

Beatles on January 25, 1969

Today we listen to the Beatles progress on January 25, 1969.  They get some work done but the interpersonal scene is not completely rosy.

George fans will get a special treat on January 26.

Beatles on January 24, 1969 Podcast

I’m posting this with only 30 minutes to spare.  It’s still January 24 here at Chateau du Roc.  Today is notable because a song that has been giving the Beatles trouble all month finally clicks.  We also hear two new songs and further work on a song that would end up on Imagine.

Although it isn’t in the podcast, there is a short skiffle session today.  I’ll share an oldies jam with you instead.  You already know “Maggie Mae,” but you might not have heard this.  John and Paul spit out whatever Chuck Berry lyrics they can think of while playing “Get Back.”  It’s this whole weird stream-of-consciousness thing.

The Beatles rehearsed on January 25, but there will be no podcast.   It is Mrs. Rock’s birthday.  I’m going to have to let myself get a day behind.  Don’t worry; you won’t miss anything.  All this will do is extend the series into February.

Beatles on January 22, 1969 podcast

40 years ago today, the Beatles continued to work on Let It Be.  The civil rights movement has been on our minds this week (in 2009) with the celebration of Martin Luther King day and Barack Obama’s inauguration.  The Beatles were thinking about Dr. King today in 1969.  We will hear some of that.  The Beatles good mood continues and the sessions get a big boost when Billy Preston arrives.  I will play you some of my favorite music from the entire month.

Come back tomorrow for more fun, including a version of the first song John Lennon ever heard Paul McCartney play.
